I really enjoyed Roxana Robinson's biography of Georgia O'Keefe. Mixed feelings about Jonathan Haidt. I'd be curious to hear your takeaways from The Anxious Generation. I haven't read it--just some of his short pieces.
I'm really appreciating the research he's citing-- it gives a lot of food for thought, especially as I prepare to enter parenting young kids in this digital age. I haven't gotten to the last section yet but it has chapters on steps towards collective action as parents, schools, etc. that seems very balanced and practical.
The Making of a Poet sounds good. I went through a whole Donald Hall phase, and would like to know more about Jane apart from him.
This week I'm reading latest issue The Florida Review - it's a lit mag and its fantastic. Also about 160 pages of prose and poetry. I feel like there's a story for every life phase. The editor's note inspired me to read it cover to cover and reaffirmed that reading lit mags is the best way to keep a finger on the pulse of literature.
“because Jane Kenyon was private, and smart.”
Love the “and smart” after the comma! Thank you for the heads up. I must get a copy!
Happy to loan you mine when I'm done!
The Making of a Poet sounds really interesting. I'm reading Leaving by Roxana Robinson and The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt.

There was a feature in the NY Times last weekend that's probably related to the publication of this book. I didn't read it, but now I will! https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/29/books/jonathan-haidt-gen-z-smartphones-interview.html?searchResultPosition=2
I loved Mattison’s The Book Borrower! I don’t t read much poetry but I do love Mary Oliver…..
My favorite Alice Mattison book is her clever collection In Case We're Separated.
